The Kybalion

This is one of my all-time favorite books. I love the kind of thought it provokes. It is a peek into the past, when knowledge was growing and expanding. This book is about the study of the Hermetic Philosophy of Ancient Egypt & Greece. It is interesting to see then, and still now, how the truth of individual thought was available and hidden away due to fear. “The lips of wisdom are closed, except to the ears of understanding.” I honestly suggest reading this book because you will not be disappointed but I will go over the 7 hermetic principles here to recap for you. Each principle is discussed in detail in the book. Many of the ideas and themes will resonate with the witches way of life, a good example being the phrase “as above, so below”. According to historians and language experts, the origin of the phrase, comes from the “Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus.” As a result, the term has close ties to the Hermetic culture. Sir Isaac Newton gets the credit for translating the Emerald Tablet

1.) The Principle of Mentalism “THE ALL is MIND; The Universe is Mental.”

2.) The Principle of Correspondence “As above, so below; as below, so above.”

3.) The Principle of Vibration “Nothing rests; everything moves; everything vibrates.”

4.) The Principle Polarity “Everything is Dual; everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites; like and unalike are the same; opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree; extremes meet; all truth are but half-truths; all paradoxes may be reconciled.”

5.) The Principle of Rhythm “Everything flows, out and in; everything has it’s tides; all things rise and fall; the pendulum-swing manifests in everything; the measure of the swing to the right is the measure of the swing to the left; rhythm compensates.”

6.) The Principle of Cause & Effect “Every Cause has its Effect; every Effect has its Cause; everything happens according to Law; Chance is but a name for Law not recognized; there are many planes of causation, but nothing escapes the Law.”

7.) The Principle of Gender “Gender is in everything; everything has its Masculine and Feminine Principles; Gender manifests on all planes.”

This book has more to offer than what I bullet pointed for you here, although this probably peaked your interest already if you have never heard it before, including the chapter on the Mental Universe. This book is a great place to start asking questions about our reality and who you want to be in it. What speaks to you will provoke more research and answers. I deem this a MUST HAVE in a Witches Library.
